Every cloud has a silver lining

I never really 'do' New Year, in fact the thought of another year gone by really depresses me when I look back on things. This year has been a very turbulent one indeed, but if there is anything it has taught me it is this:
Every cloud really does have a silver lining.
All of the horrible lows , cruel words and lies that have been thrown at me have all been worth it, because I ended up meeting two of the best friends I could ever have hoped for, along with a lot of other wonderful people too. it just goes to show that the negative influence of one person, really can be cancelled out with true friendship like mindedness and positivity.

Louise and Nicky have become a much needed and permanent fixture in my life, they respect and love me for who I am, with no jealousy, hatred or ulterior motive.
They have both been there for me when I was feeling down trodden and always made me smile and laugh when I really needed to.
They have restored my hope in the human race. These two ladies are the best friends anyone could ever hope for and I am so blessed to have them both in my life, I love them very much indeed.

It's like the Daniel Johnston song;
"true love will find you in the end, you'll find out just who was your friend"

One of my friends holds a brilliant night each month at the Fox and newt in Leeds called Tower of song. Its a themed open mic night in which each month has a musical theme, ie country, folk, rock opera, etc, and a subject such as animals, childrens tv, the sea and so on, here are a few of the offerings I have from those nights..

An army Of me

There is one thing I have learnt in recent years, although I think deep down I already knew it in the first place, and that is that I am not a collaborator. I don't enjoy it, I don't like it and I don't necessarily believe it is helpful or right for many people.
I've collaborated with people I have nothing in common with , to people I love very much and neither experience has been fulfilling or helpful to me.

I know that there is nothing at all wrong with this, in fact I like to be alone within my work, and sometimes within my life, I find it very helpful, I feel privileged and confident that I will succeed and if I do it will be alone , and that's the way I want it to be, because as Janis Joplin once said:

"Never compromise yourself, your the only thing you've got" and she was ultimately right.

I enjoy being a one woman army and not relying on anyone

and if I ever feel lonely for a split second I shall pin my smile straight back onto my silly old face , because whatever happens , my heart is a drummer and I know |I will carry on , no matter what is thrown at me.

stop your sobbing

Just because I love this song

hope you enjoy it too

What's the Point?

Ta da!

At first I wasn't completely happy with the look of this piece , I often have a set image in my head and if that isn't achieved I'm not a happy bunny, however, once I added sound to the video it seemed to immediately grow on me, sometimes accidents can be a very happy thing.

Introducing Helga Von Sharpentaffle

just a few teaser stills from my latest video project.
I have been experimenting with camera trickery in my new film about Helga Von Sharpentaffle, a performer made entirely from pencils and pencil shavings,, how far will Helga go to make herself the prettiest clown in town?

you will soon find out

Helga Von Sharpentaffle.  was a renowned clown in 1930's Berlin, unfortunately she was sent to Dachau for her flagrant lesbianism and wilful mockery of the third Reich

Dewsbury park museum (fun with Fenton) Mini theatre set

Having lots of fun at the seaside with naughty sausage stealing dogs and glamorous swimming caps

come and join the fun it's there until July
at crow nest park Dewsbury park museum

Tuesday 21 May 2013

Dewsbury Park museum (crow nest park exhibition. 'Don't do it Mother!')

The work for the museum was loosely based on Eileen Fenton Dewsbury's own channel swimmer.
I took the fun and colour found in Bamforths postcards and added another comical slant onto the quintessential British seaside holiday and the comical things that might occur when there is a lot of goose fat involved , or in this case , a fat goose.

I wanted people who came to the museum to be able to dress up and play with my work, hence the masks, visitors can dress as the channel swimmer within my work (aka me ) and just have fun.
